:
: Ethical approval for conducting the study was requested to the Stockholm Ethical Board and received (Dnr 2020–02711 and Dnr 2020–07239).Respondents were informed both verbally and in written form about study participation prior to signing the informed consent form. They were asked for permission to record the interviews for research purposes only, and they were also informed of the possibility to step back from the study at any moment, should they have felt uncomfortable. In general, no negative side effects were expected from study participation, as the questions were broad, and respondents could choose how much of their own experience to share.
: Respondents were also informed both verbally and in written form about the possibility of publishing the results from the study and agreed to it by signing the informed consent form.
: KA, PR, KL, and PM were all employed at the hospital during the pilot projects and were all involved in different capacity in the improvement process. RB was employed as an external consultant to lead the COVID-19 pilot project. All authors declare that they have no competing interests. To mitigate the inherent risk of bias, data collection and analysis was primarily conducted by JLL, MM, CS, CW and MR, all external researchers. All authors though contributed to the design of the study and interpretation of findings.
