: Ethical approval for the study was granted by the MSc Ethics Committee at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) (approval number 16923) and local approval granted by the American University in Cairo under the Scholar Without Stipend programme, which allocated an Egyptian academic supervisor to oversee the research in Egypt. All participants had informed consent and could withdraw at any time; this included filling in a consent form which explained the purpose of the study, the process of anonymisation and the use of collected data. The methodology was conducted in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations for qualitative research (COREQ).
