: Due to residents’ stage of dementia, legal representatives were asked to provide their consent. All care and treatment professionals and all residents’ representatives were individually asked for their written consent to participate. All professionals consented to participation. No data were recorded on the five residents and residents’ representatives who did not consent and refused participation for themselves and their family member. At the start of each observation and each interview, we rechecked informed consent signatures of all residents’ representatives and all professionals participating at that moment. Storage of all data was performed in accordance with the data management regulations of the Radboud university medical centre.This study was conducted according to the guidelines of the declaration of Helsinki. The Medical Ethics Review Committee concluded that our research was not subjected to the requirements of Medical Research (Human Subjects) Act (file nr. 2021–13285), dated 18th November 2021. ( Wet medisch-wetenschappelijk onderzoek met mensen).All potential participants of this project were carefully informed beforehand in several meetings and by a written information letter.
