: The project Kvalitet og variasjon i helsetjenesten [Quality and variation in the healthcare system] is a quality improvement project. Research Director Atle Fretheim of the NIPH healthcare services division approved the Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) for the quality improvement project. According to the joint body of the Norwegian Regional Committees for Medical and Health Research Ethics, research approval is not required for quality assurance projects and exempted from the requirement of written consent. The study was performed in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations including the Declaration of Helsinki.
