The data were obtained by applying to National School of Development, Peking University, and the ethic approval was granted by the Ethical Review Committee of Peking University (IRB00001052-11015). The potential participants in this study were fully informed of the content and aim of the research. Only those who were willing to voluntarily participate and signed the informed consent form were considered as final respondents in the survey. According to the national legislation guidelines in China, the secondary analysis of public data from CHARLS did not require additional ethics approval.
