Ethics approval and consent to participate: Ethical approval was obtained from the Research Ethics Committee at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven) (PRET approval number: G-2024-8892-R4(MAR)) and Kabale University Research Ethics Committee (KABREC-2025-883). The proposal was then submitted to the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST) (registration number: HS6231ES) for final clearance via the National Research Information Management System (NRIMS). Administrative approvals were also obtained from Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, and the respective District Health Offices in Mbarara and Kabale. All participants gave written informed consent.
