: The collection of first-trimester human embryonic gonads between 5 and 9.5 wpc was performed only after patient written informed consent in accordance with national guidelines and ethical approval was obtained from the Regional Human Ethics Committee Stockholm (Dnr 2007/1437, 2011/1101-32, 2013/564-32, Dnr 2013/457-31/4), more recently referred to as The Swedish Ethical Review Authority. Ethical approval for use of human adult testis tissues was obtained from the East of Scotland Research Ethics Committee (reference: CitationRef removed/ES/0094).
