: The study uses the bivalve mollusk Mytilus galloprovoncialis as species target for the experiments. Any member of bivalve mollusks or Mytilus specifically is currently included in the list of species regulated in European Member States and in Italy for their use for scientific purposes. The taxon is not included in Directive 2010/63/EU. Based on this, there is no requirement of any ethical clearance for the use of mussels in scientific research in our country or in the European Union. The species is also not listed in the IUCN Red List of threatened organisms and does not belong to taxa included in the CITES checklist. For the purpose of our study, animals have been collected through locally authorized plants distributing for human consumption.
