: Approval for the EPIC study was obtained from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and local center review boards. All participants provided written informed consent. The two colorectal cancer case-control studies were approved by the ethics committee at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) on 7 April 2014 (IEC 14-08). For the UK Biobank, ethical approval was obtained from the North West Multicentre Research Ethics Committee, the National Information Governance Board for Health and Social Care in England and Wales, and the Community Health Index Advisory Group in Scotland.
