: In Finland, the Act on Data Protection (2018/1050) and the Act on the Finnish Institute of Health and Welfare (668/2008) define that informed consent is not required in scientific research when the study is based solely on retrospective register data. This applies even when processing sensitive personal data. No other than register data has been used in this study. Thus, the need for written informed consent was waived by Institutional Review Board (IRB) of the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (No. THL/1118/6.02.00/2021) due to the retrospective nature of the study.
