: The study was conducted in accordance with the German Animal Welfare Act (Article 8). The competent authority was informed. According to the information of our ethics committee (Regierungspräsidium Giessen, Dezernat 54 – Veterinärwesen/Verbraucherschutz, Wetzlar, Germany, ethics committee number: GI 17/18), a particular approval for the study was not needed, because the study itself was not the indication of blood sampling and did not require taking an additional amount of blood. For the diseased dogs, the measurement of CRP was part of the routine clinical chemical profile, whereby 1–2 1.2 cmheparin tubes for measurement of CRP on the ABX Pentra 400 and the remainder clinical chemical measurands was required. Evaluation on the Point Reader™ V was conducted from superfluous heparinized plasma as only 10 μl were necessary. The healthy dogs included in this study were presented in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences in Giessen, Germany, either for health assessments or as blood donors. This part of the study served also for establishment of reference intervals for another evaluation and was ethically approved by the ethics committee (Regierungspräsidium Giessen, Dezernat 54 – Veterinärwesen/Verbraucherschutz, Wetzlar, Germany, ethics committee number: GI 17/18, reference number V54-19c2015hO2GI18/17 kTV/2017).
