: The animals employed in this experiment were maintained and treated in accordance with Legislative Decree 26/14 guidelines based on European Directive 2010/63/EU. Animal welfare was routinely checked by veterinarians from the VTH (Veterinary Teaching Hospital) of the Department of Veterinary Medicine, University of Sassari, and every effort was made to minimize the number of animals used and their suffering. The experimental protocols were approved by the Ethical Committee of the University of Sassari and by the veterinary control officers for animal protection in experimental and clinical studies conducted at the University of Sassari (Auth. of 06/06/2012).
