Ethics approval and consent to participate

: Pathologists at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences collected samples from dogs during routine post mortem examination of privately owned dogs euthanized by intravenous pentobarbital injection at the University Animal Hospital. Control dogs were euthanized of reasons unrelated to this study. Written consent for euthanasia, post mortem examination and tissue sampling, were given by the dog owners, in accordance with institutional guidelines. A specific permission for the study was not required from the Norwegian Food Safety Authority because all the samples were retrieved from the archive of the pathology laboratory.
