Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Need for specific ethics approval was waived because the collection of a blood sample from each dog was also done for clinical investigations. The study was carried out in accordance with the guidelines for the care and use of animals of the Department of Veterinary Sciences of the University of Turin (Italy) and with the written consent of the dog owners. All procedures were in compliance with the guidelines of the Italian Ministry of Health for the care and use of animals (D.L. 4 March 2014 n. 26 and D.L. 27 January 1992 n.116).
