: Ethical approval was obtained from National Institute of Medical Research of Tanzania, (Ref #.NIMR/HQ/R.8a/Vol.IX/3233). The ethics committee approved the procedure for thumbprinted consent, and why they felt the need for written consent was not necessary for this study. The objective of the study was explained to the farmers by the researcher, the consent form read out to them, and those who agreed either appended their signatures or thumbprints on the form before the interview. Confidentiality of the farmers was kept using unique codes.
