: All methods were carried out in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations. According to the Swedish Board of Agriculture’s regulations and general advice on laboratory animals (SJVFS 2019:9, case no. L150) the retrospective study described in this manuscript did not require permission from the Central or Local Animal Experiment Ethics Committees. Informed consent from owners of animals for the general use of medical records for research purposes, including results of laboratory tests and pathology reports, was provided at admission in all cases. In addition, informed consent from all owners of horses with confirmed non-strangulating intestinal infarction was obtained prior to the study.
