: Only stored samples have been used in this study. The blood was not sampled for the purpose of the study described in this paper. The dogs involved were not submitted to any procedure in order to obtain the results discussed in this article. All participating dogs were regular patients of the Small Animal Veterinary Clinic in Biskupiec (Poland). PB samples were collected for regular monitoring of complete blood count on request by the attending veterinary doctor. Owing to the kind cooperation of the dogs’ owners and veterinary doctors, the unused blood from laboratory tests was made available for the present study. In each case, the owners informed consent to the use of blood of their dogs for scientific research has been obtained. The acquisition of biological material for research under the circumstances as described above does not require an approval of the Ethics Commission in Poland.
