: Ileal and caecal tissues were scavenged from a separate study investigating the probiotic potential of Lactobacillus strains. All experiments were performed following the Australian Code for Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes and was approved by the University of Adelaide Animal Ethics Committee (S-2023-030). Permission to collect faecal samples from commercial layer hen sheds was obtained directly from egg producers. Samples were collected from shed infrastructure; animals were not handled during collection.
