: Ethical approval was not required for non-archival (Italian) cases and controls, as ophthalmological health data were obtained from voluntary examinations conducted independently by owners and breeders. All the remaining data came from stored archival samples. Genetic analyses were performed using biological samples previously deposited with the Italian Kennel Club (ENCI), in accordance with the technical standards of the Italian genealogical register. No procedures were conducted specifically for research purposes, and no animals were handled or sampled directly by the authors.
