: All experimental procedures were performed in accordance with regulations and ethical guidelines from the Canadian Council for the Care of Laboratory Animals and received approval by the animal ethics and research committee of the Montreal Heart Institute. Samples of lungs explanted from patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF, n = 11) or from lung disease-free donors (n = 6) were obtained from the NHLBI sponsored Lung Tissue Research Consortium and from the respiratory tissue biobank of CR-CHUM respectively. Experimental procedures received approval by the review board of each biobank and by the human ethics and research committee of the Montreal Heart Institute.
