: This study was conducted in accordance with the ethical guidelines outlined in the Declaration of Helsinki and approved by the Ethics Committee of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University (approval number: 2020-51). The peripheral blood and airway brush cell samples from COPD patients and the control group were sourced from the Early Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (ECOPD) study (Trial registration: Chinese Clinical Trial Registry ChiCTR190002464. Registered on 19 July 2019). Written informed consent was obtained from all participants prior to specimen collection.
