: This CSS was part of the MSMT project, whose protocol was reviewed and approved by the Medical Research Coordinating Committee (MRCC) of the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR). Permission to conduct the study was sought from the President’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), regional authorities of Kagera and the District Executive Director of Kyerwa. Leaders of Kitwechenkura ward and the five villages were consulted through meetings that were held at the ward level and agreed for this and other components of the MSMT project to be implemented in their communities. Information about the CSS was given in the community through their village mobilization teams for two consecutive days before the survey. Before taking part in the survey, verbal and written informed consent were sought and obtained from all participants or parents/guardians in case of children.
