: The study received approval (ADM/MS314/01) from the UPS authorities prior to implementation. We also received ethical approval from the Research Ethics Committee of the School of Public Health, Makerere University (MAKSPH-REC 172) and the National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST). The study utilized secondary data sources, which primarily included the UPS HMIS database with permission from the UPS, to access the data for the selected prison health facilities. In the process of secondary data review, the confidentiality of personal data was strictly observed, and issues of double vulnerability were avoided by only reviewing medical records reported at least three months prior to data collection. The study also ensured that the prisoners’ rights were protected and observed at all stages of the study.
