: Ethical clearance for the collection of mosquito specimens was obtained from the University of the Witwatersrand (M141023 & W-CJ-150520-2). Prior to setting up the different collection methods, informed consent was verbally obtained from the heads of each household (adults over 18 years old) in their native language. Volunteers participating in human landing catches were also asked for consent before collections commenced. Following each collection round, volunteers involved in human landing catches were monitored for malaria symptoms, and in the event of a positive case, they were provided with medication at no financial cost (note: no positive case was recorded from HLC volunteers during this study).
