All study procedures were approved by Institutional Review Board (IRB) committees at the University of California San Francisco, the Vector Control Division of the Ugandan Ministry of Health and the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology. Assent was provided by children aged 8 to 17 years and their parents/guardians consented on their behalf. Participants were informed that their decision to take part in the study was voluntary. The consent forms were kept under key and lock. To ensure confidentiality, all participant identifying information was removed.
