The Chief, the malaria office, and the different schools also provided permission and support letters. The study process and the consent form were explained to all participants in their native language (i.e. IsiZulu), and participants gave written permission to participate. Participants were informed that it was strictly voluntary to participate and that they could withdraw from the study at any time without giving a reason.Individual interviews were held in a private setting outside the participant’s household. Unique personal identifiers were used. Consent forms were stored as hard copies in sealed boxes in the researcher’s office as well as electronically on a PIN-enabled hard drive.
