: This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Ministry of Health of Benin. All methods were carried out in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations and all experimental protocols were approved by the Ethics Committee. Informed Consent was obtained from all subjects and/or their legal guardian(s). The data on malaria prevalence are anonymised and were extracted from the Demographic and Health Survey databases. The corresponding author had obtained authorisation to collect this data. Consequently, we were granted permission to use the data, but no ethics approval number was provided.
