Ethics approval and consent to participate
: The MIREC study was reviewed and approved by the ethics committees at Health Canada and recruitment sites. The visual acuity testing was also approved by the ethics committees. Parents consented prior to participation and were provided with information on the design and objectives of the study. All procedures performed in studies involving human participants were in accordance with the ethical standards of the institutional and/or national research committee and with the 1964 Declaration of Helsinki and its later amendments or comparable ethical standards.
