: This study was approved by the National Health Science Research Committee (NHSRC) in Malawi with protocol number 1059, titled "<i>Lessons Learned from Monitoring and Evaluation of Community Health Initiatives in Neno District, Malawi</i>." Before data collection, research assistants obtained written informed consent from CHWs and household participants. Upon obtaining verbal and written consent, the CHW introduced the observer to the household members and made it clear that the observer was there to observe the CHW without recording details of the individual. In case of confidentiality issues, the CHW could ask the observer to step away from a conversation and then join at the end to record time for the remainder of the visit. Households with no household head at the time of the study were not observed.
