: All animal procedures were conducted in accordance with the Portuguese Decree-Law 113/2013, which transposes European Directive 2010/63/EU and complies with the European Commission’s recommendations (2007/526/EC) on the housing and care of animals. Our practices followed the FELASA and ARRIVE guidelines to ensure the highest standards of animal welfare. The procedures received prior approval from the Animal Welfare Body, established under Article 34 of Decree-Law 113/2013, and legal authorization from the competent authority, Direção-Geral de Alimentação e Veterinária (DGAV) (license number 0421/000/000/2021).
