: The animal procedures were performed according to the guidelines from Directive 2010/63/EU of the European Parliament on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes. All the animal work was performed in the Central Animal Facility (CDP) of the UMCG. Initial experiments were approved by Animal Care and Use Committee (DEC) of the University of Groningen with protocols (Experiments with Ercc1 animals: DEC5939B; Tolerance experiments: DEC6174B). From 2016, the experiments were approved by the CCD (license # AVD105002015360) and the Animal Care and Use Committee of the University of Groningen (protocol # IVD15360-03-02).
