: This study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and approved by the relevant local ethics committees of the IRCCS INRCA network. All participants provided written informed consent prior to enrollment. The study was part of the ReportAGE project (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT01397682), an ongoing epidemiological cohort investigating health outcomes in hospitalized older adults. For the subset of patients undergoing epigenetic analyses, the study protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Italian National Research Center on Aging (CE INRCA 20031, 04/02/2021). Only patients able to provide informed consent were enrolled, in accordance with ethical requirements, which may have led to underrepresentation of individuals with severe cognitive impairment, advanced dementia, or impaired consciousness at admission. Data collection and processing were carried out following Good Clinical Practice guidelines and applicable national regulations.
