: Formal ethical approval from an institutional review board was not required for this investigation, as it was conducted as part of a public health outbreak response. Permission to conduct the investigation was obtained from the Biakoye District Health Directorate in accordance with Ghana Health Service guidelines. In addition, the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Programme (GFELTP) reviewed and approved the notification report before the commencement of field activities. The investigation was conducted in accordance with Ghana Health Service regulations and the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki. Informed consent was obtained from all participants or their parents/guardians in the case of children under 16 years. Participation was voluntary, and confidentiality of information was assured.
