Ethics approval and consent to participate
: We consulted the Simon Fraser University Office of Research Ethics who waived the need for ethics approval based on their assessment that writing up a reflection on a matrix game exercise fell under Article 2.5 (quality assurance and quality improvement studies) of its policies and so did fall within the scope of Research Ethics Board review. Nevertheless, prior to the game, we informed all participants, both verbally and in written form, of our wish to share their feedback and survey responses confidentially in future publications. All participants signed an informed consent form to this effect.
