: This research was approved by the Institutional Review Board of the University of Gondar. Permissions to interview migrants returning from abroad were obtained from the Ethiopian Immigration centers located in the three border towns and the IOM Office in Addis Ababa. Similar permissions to interview office workers and residents were also obtained from local government offices at the trafficking-stricken areas or trafficking corridors. A written consent form explaining the aim, subject matter, and the voluntary nature of participation was read for each adult participant before they signed it. For children bellow 18, an assent form was prepared and read to get their consent in addition to the permission obtained from Moyale Immigration center which was returning the smuggled children to their origins after they were deported by Kenyan and Tanzania governments. There was no legal guardian available for children to give consent other than the Ethiopian government office that provided food and transported them until reached home. We strictly followed the world health organization ethics protocol recommended to interview trafficked women []. In this regard, we were sensitive to the needs, privacy and fears of victims and not to re-traumatize them during the interview. Data obtained from participants were also kept anonymous and confidential. No financial incentive was given to participants for their participation.
