The study protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Medical Association of the Federal State Rhineland-Palatinate [reference number 837.526.13 (9211), 15.04.2014]. Prior to testing, each person was medically examined (including resting and exercise ECG) and familiarised with the test procedures. A further medical interview or, if deemed necessary by the physician overseeing medical safety (medical supervisor), a medical check-up was conducted before test repetition.
