: This research follows ethical standards set by the International Society of Ethnobiology []. Since this project developed a research topic that did not directly affect (intolerable interference with the quality of life and customs) collective subjects who are subject to constitutionally protected rights in Colombia, the Colombian Ministry of the Interior considered that no formal previous consultation process was required (OFI18-14627-DCP-2500). The purpose and scope of the study was clearly explained to the community as a whole and to the governors’ council. The rights of prior consultation and free prior and informed consent were explained to each of the participants (based on public documents on prior consultation from the Ministerio del Interior y de Justicia and the booklet “tejiendo derechos” of the Organización Nacional Indígena de Colombia-ONIC []); also, an explanation was given on the just and equitable sharing of the benefits derived from the information obtained within the project following the Nagoya protocol on Access and Benefit Sharing, and finally a voluntary prior informed consent was signed.
