: Written permission to conduct the research was obtained from the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) Office of the Vice-Chancellor research committee (Ref. no. SUA/FSC/D/2020/0012/12, dated February 17, 2022), and the three chosen peri-urban area local government heads (Hawassa, Shashemene, and Dilla District) were given authorization for the field study and plant collection via an official letter (Ref No: D/Z/W/03–23/1031, dated: 23/03/2022, (R/T/T/O/303/2021, dated March 28, 2021). Before providing oral informed consent, study participants were given a brief explanation of the study's objectives. Each participant gave his or her free consent to take part in the study.
