: Ethical approval was granted by LSHTM Ethics Committee (LSHTM MSc Ethics Ref: 21325), the Ethics Board of the Chiang Mai University (CMU Ref 147/2563) Department of Medicine, Tak Community Advisory Board (TCAB202001), and Mae Tao Clinic Community Ethics Advisory Board (CEAB, letter dated 18 May 2020). Though the study population consists of educated healthcare workers who are leaders in their community, consideration of vulnerability in terms of documentation in Thailand and prior trauma experiences was included in the conduct of the research. Written informed consent was obtained from all participants using patient information sheets, informed consent forms and verbal explanations in Karen, Burmese or Thai, depending on the preferred language of the participant. Participants’ rights to withdraw from the study or decline to answer any question were explained before surveys and interviews.
