: The study did not require official approval on animal experimentation according to national legislation because it concerned routine elective surgery on patients using high-end commercially available instruments intended for this use. The study has received mandatory ethical approval by the Ethical committee of the department of Clinical Sciences of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University, under the number: AVR 20 − 01. The animals were handled according to high ethical standards and national legislation.
: Utrecht University and the department of clinical sciences of companion animals sign an agreement form (Consent form) with every client prior to treatment at the university hospital. In this agreement, the owner signs to a range of terms, but also to the use of medical information for publication as long as the welfare of the animal is not compromised and the identity of the client and the animal is protected. Above this, all owners signed a consent form related to the study.
