: Ethical approval for this study was granted by the University of Technology Sydney’s ethics committee [HREC ETH22-7709] and the Sudanese Ministry of Health Research Ethics Committee. An information sheet detailing the study’s aims, potential risks and benefits, participant rights, and confidentiality measures were shared and discussed with potential participants. The researcher provided time for questions and subsequently sought voluntary informed consent from participants to participate in the study. Participants were assured of their confidentiality and anonymity, and it was emphasised that they could withdraw from the study at any time without any repercussions. Transcripts were anonymised using pseudonyms to protect confidentiality before being translated into English. Data was securely stored on a password-protected computer. The first author is a doctoral researcher in Public Health at the University of Technology Sydney. She has received training in qualitative research and ethics prior to fieldwork and during her master’s degree and has extensive experience conducting qualitative research in Sudan.
