: The study was approved by the Norwegian regional ethics committee, reference number 2017/1195. All participants gave written informed consent, and the study followed the Helsinki Declaration.

: The authors declare that they have no competing interests. The study was conducted independently of <i>The Change Factory</i> and the participating clinics. The first author had a connection to one of the participatory CAMHS, but not the same unit. Knowledge of the interviewer can affect the participants, and it was decided that one of the participants should withdraw due to a work relationship. To minimize bias, one researcher with no connection to the CAMHS attended as co-interviewer.
