: The Research and Development Department in SECAmb actively involves public and patient representatives in research in individual research projects and the Trust's research governance committee. PPI members are integral to research activities in SECAmb and have been pivotal in developing this study and supporting the funding application. This research initially targeted individuals with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) (60 years and older) requiring emergency hospitalisation. The primary evaluation assessed patient outcomes depending on whether patients had received treatment at a hospital with neurosurgical facilities. Early discussions with patients and the public about this proposal changed the research design to focus on the impact of pre-hospital patient care, ambulance triage and clinical decision-making rather than on hospital facilities' influence.
