: This study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and approved by the Ethics Committee of Osaka University (IRB approval No. 16260–4). The requirement for informed consent regarding registration in the Japan Trauma Data Bank (JTDB), retrospective analysis of anonymised data, and publication of results was waived following approval from the Japanese Association for the Surgery of Trauma and ethics committees of the participating institutions. This waiver was in accordance with the ethical guidelines for medical and health research involving human subjects issued by the Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare of Japan.
