: The study was approved by the Institutional Review Board of the General University Hospital and First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, Prague. Each participant's legal representative was informed of the study enrollment and asked for written informed consent as soon as possible. All patients who regained normal neurological function were asked to provide written permission to use their data. Consent requirements were waived for patients who died at the scene and never reached the hospital and those without known legal representatives. The trial complied with the Declaration of Helsinki and is registered at ExternalRef removed (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT01511666).
