: Islet isolation centers had permission to use islets from donors for scientific research if they were insufficient for clinical transplantation following national regulations and ethical requirements and institutional approvals from Leiden University Medical Center, Geneva University Hospitals, University of Lille, and Milano San Raffaele Hospital.
