: The SIFT SWAT protocol was approved by the National Research Ethics Service (NRES) Committee East Midlands – Nottingham 2 on 20 December 2016 (reference 13/EM/0030).Parents who had not consented to participate in the two-year follow-up were excluded from the SWAT. For those that had consented to involvement in the follow-up, no additional consent was sought for the SWAT, because the parent information leaflet and the original consent process clearly indicated that the trial primary outcome was to be ascertained by questionnaire at 2 years of age corrected for prematurity.When parents were sent their questionnaire, they were explicitly informed of the incentives approach to which they had been allocated. It was felt that providing specific details to parents as to whether the incentive was conditional or unconditional would bias response rate and prevent assessment of the efficacy of the planned intervention. Withholding information about the other incentive arm was crucial for carrying out an unbiased study. However, a condition of ethics approval was that a debriefing sheet will be sent to parents detailing the results of the SWAT alongside the final SIFT results.
