Community consent will be sought from community leaders prior to randomisation and intervention implementation. Ethical approvals were provided by the University College London Research Ethics Committee (ref: 3433/004) and the Jigawa State Health Research Ethics Committee (MOH/SEC.3/S/830/1). Any major protocol modifications will be submitted for ethical review as amendments and updated in the trial registration.
