: All research procedures will be conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and according to International Conference on Harmonisation GCP guidelines. Ethical approval for the study was obtained from the institutional review boards of the University of Malawi (protocol number: P. 02/22/128) and the International Food Policy Research Institute (protocol number: 7490). Adverse events and serious adverse events will be reported to both boards, according to their respective reporting requirements. A trial steering group will provide oversight of the trial. Written informed consent was obtained from adult women or the parents/guardians of women < 18 years of age by trained enumerators. Verbal information on the study was provided before obtaining consent. Model consent form and other related documentation given to participants and authorised surrogates can be provided upon request to the Principal Investigator.
