: This study will be conducted in compliance with the current version of the Declaration of Helsinki and Good Clinical Practice guidelines. The research project was approved by the Santiago-Lugo Research Ethics Committee (CEI-SL), registration number 2023/127, on April 11, 2023. The EDESTROKE study was registered into the clinicaltrials.gov clinical trials registry with No. NCT05847309L.Trial investigators will identify consecutive patients admitted to the ICU with acute ischemic stroke due to a proximal occlusion of the anterior circulation, who meet the inclusion criteria. Eligible patients or their legal representatives if the patient cannot understand information due to an underlying disease will receive written and oral information and will be included in randomization after investigators have obtained informed written consent. Once patients are extubated and if their medical condition allows them to understand the information, they will be given the option to either continue participating in the study or withdraw themselves from it.Investigators will identify consecutive patients admitted in ICU, with acute ischemic stroke due to a proximal occlusion of the anterior circulation, who meet the inclusion criteria.
